Why you should definitely plan a trip to Kangra and McLeod Ganj!

Kangra Fort

I am a lover of hills, and I love travelling to North India every now and then. One of the best places to visit in North India is definitely McLeod Ganj.  The place has got it all; while travelling there, you must not focus on one region only, and instead, you must try covering the entire region of Kangra- Dharamshala- Mcleodganj.

So, here I am going to tell you what all places you must visit in the region and what best the place has to offer-

Kangra Valley

Kangra Valley is situated amidst the Dhauladhar ranges that give the place one of the most wonderful scenic views. It is very convenient to travel to Kangra as it has all the transport connectivity, from the Inter-state bus stop to airport, you can choose any mode of transportation. Once you are in Kangra, you then have got all the options to explore.

At first, what should not be missed in Kangra is the Kangra Fort, you might feel that it is a little boring to visit a fort but I suggest you must visit atleast once, the scenic views from the place are delight for the eyes plus you will get to hear the pleasing sound of river flowing, all the while, just behind the fort. For me it was an amazing experience to be present at the fort on a sunny day in winters, I loved it!  The next place you can try out is the Brajeshwari Devi Temple, which is very popular amongst the locals and has got so much history attached to it.

McLeod Ganj

About 24 km from Kangra is situated McLeod Ganj, which is very popular amongst the youth. Vibrant sub-urbs, rustic cafes, breathe taking sceneries, the place is basically a package in itself. The most famous attractions are the Dalai Lama Temple and the mall road. Bhagsunag is just 6 km away from McLeod Ganj, which may take you 15- 20 minutes of walking amongst the deodar trees. Once you reach Bhagsunag, the must visit places are the Bhagsunag Temple and the Bhagsu Waterfall. You may find the Bhagsu Waterfall an amazing place for a little adventure as well as relief. It is a natural waterfall, where you can eat Maggi and enjoy a cup of tea, sitting on the stones just in the middle of the water stream, you will surely find yourself enjoying this experience. After wonderful destinations, the other great thing about McLeodganj is the food, you can get mouthwatering Tibetan and Italian food, my favourite from the place is pasta at Jimmy’s, which is one of the most popular places of McLeodganj. It is also a great place for desserts and brownies, don’t forget to try that after having a great meal.

Dharamshala

Dharamshala is a calm, graceful place where you should definitely plan to spend atleast a night. It has got a very cultural vibe associated with it. The best place to visit is the St. John Church in the wilderness, it is a popular tourist destination, and this is the place where Priyanka Chopra’s wedding scene of the movie Mary Kom is shot. The next amazing destination in Dharmashala is the Norbulingka Monastery; the best thing about this place is that it gives you a very calm and peaceful vibe! The cafeteria is the place to be at; you can enjoy your coffee with some snacks spending the leisure time you must be longing for.

Norbulingka

Even after talking about three major places there are other places also, around McLeodganj, which you must visit if you have an extended holiday. Bir Billing, Naddi, Triund and Palampur are some of the nearest places where you should go, to enjoy nature at its best.

So, if you have not planned a trip yet, go ahead and try Kangra- McLeodganj- Dharamshala this time. Do tell me your experience of travelling!
