Snow is that one thing which may come to your mind when its winters. So, to soothe your senses I am going to take you on a journey to see snow with me!

During my recent visit to Himachal Pradesh, I went to visit the Rohtang pass near Manali, which is a gateway to Leh. Rohtang Pass remains closed whenever there is heavy snowfall, and that usually happens in the month of November to March. Still, the place remains cold throughout the year and you can spot snow almost all the time. When I visited the place in the month of December, Rohtang Pass was closed, so I could not go to the pass, but then I went to its closest place, Gulaba, where I could actually find snow!

I have been to Rohtang Pass earlier during summers when I could go to the pass, so I knew the trick, it is basically that you go up to Kothi and then from there move further as much as you can go. When I arrived at Kothi, my cab could not go any further, so I got down at Kothi and hired another local cab to reach Gulaba which is around 15-20 km from Kothi. Gulaba was the last place till where vehicles were allowed to go and it was the place where there was plenty of snow.

When I reached the place, I was delighted to see the white sheet all around. The whole mountain was snow covered and was looking breathtaking. I easily climbed up on a little hill to find the plain surface to enjoy and play in the snow. Reaching the place was really a visual treat to the eye, the snow all around and the bright sunshine made it look even more beautiful. I loved the place; I made snowballs, danced in the snow, clicked a lot of pictures and enjoyed a lot.

Here is a quick tip for you, when you visit the place, make sure to wear snow boots and any comfortable shoes because while walking in snow your feet might sometimes get inside the snow and even hit the water flowing beneath, you can also opt for snowsuits which are available for rent on the way to Kothi, this will protect you from snow going inside your clothes and making you wet. Though I did wear boots, I was not wearing a snowsuit because it was a bright sunny day and there was no chance of snowfall as such.

Okay now, moving further, Gulaba on way to Rohtang pass is a very small destination where I enjoyed a lot and surely you would also do if you visit. There were small-small stalls presents who were selling tea, coffee, Maggi, and sandwiches, if you feel hungry you can go and grab a quick bite. And why not, having tea in the middle of the mountains is such a dream come true, at least it was for me.

After enjoying a lot and munching a little in the cold, I headed back. The whole region there is so picturesque that you might not want to miss even a single shot on camera; you would enjoy getting a lot of pictures on this journey. When I was moving down, it was the time for sunset so I could see the light fading before my eyes and the cold increase. One the way back also, I came back to Kothi first then took my cab and said goodbye to this beautiful destination.
